1. Can I record from a commercially purchased DVDs or videocassettes?
Since duplicating copyrighted material is illegal, most commercially sold DVDs and VHS tapes are encoded with copy encryption, so they cannot be recorded by iLO recorders.
2. What's the difference between DVD+/-R and DVD+/-RW discs?
Although DVD+RW technology does allow for re-writing, DVD+R discs are usually less expensive. Both formats offer exceptional compatibility with DVD home players and DVD drives in PCs.
3. Can my DVD Recorder record to CD-R/RW format discs?
Although it can play CD-R/RW discs, including MP3 files, it cannot record to them.
4. Can I change recording speeds/quality during a recording session?
Once the quality has been set, that is the speed for the duration of the intended recording. However, iLO DVD Recorders are flexible enough to allow different recording speeds/quality on every disc, as long as the content will fit into the remaining disc space.
5. My recorder offers different recording speeds. Apart from allowing longer recording, what do these do? Will different speeds affect the quality of the recording?
The four speeds (HQ=1 hour; SP=2 hours; EP=4 hours; SLP=6 hours) inherent in the iLO DVDR04 model are associated with four different levels of stat transfer. As the recording time increases, the data transfer rate decrases and the quality will decrease. The recording speeds up to 4 hours are MPEG-2 quality with is equivalent to movies shown in the theaters. The SLP recording quality is similiar to VHS or often better, depending on the content being recorded. The Ilo DVDRHD04 model with the built-in hard disk drive has five recording speeds (HQ=17 hours; SP=34 hours; LP=51 hours; EP=68 hours; and SLP=96 hours)
6. Can my DVD Recorder record portions of content as " Chapters" so that I can later navigate to a desired section?
Yes, Setup "Chapter Marks", in increments of five minutes up to a maximum of 30 minutes, in an On-Screen Menu screen. You can access each "Chapter" using the "menu" button on the DVD player - just like you do with your favorite DVD movies.
7. Why does the length of the finalizing disc process vary so much?
The amount of time it takes to finalize a DVD+R disc depends on how much you have recorded on it. The purpose of finalizing a disc is "general housekeeping" that allocates the remaining recording time on the disc. The more content recorded on the disc, the less time will be needed to finalize the disc.
8. Will the "Pause Live TV" Time Shift feature work with DVD+R/RW discs or the built-in hard drive (if recorder has one)?
These feature can only be used with the built-in hard disk on the iLO DVDRHD04 model.
9. Can I record over previous material on a DVD+RW discs?
Yes, DVD+RW discs can be reused. Unwanted material must first be deleted by using the "Format" function. This process delivers the same results as deleting files from a PC disk. All disc contents will be permanently erased.
10. Can I use a DVD+RW disc in my iLo DVD Recorder that had previously been used in a PC?
Yes, but because the format is different, you have to reformat the disc.
11. How many times can a DVD+RW disc be used?
We estimate that DVD+RW discs can be re-written about 1000 times.
12. What is the recommended media list?
* We will suggest you use the disc made by vendor with good quality. It will get the better quality for writing. But iLo have no control over the quality of the media in the list. We can't guarantee.

13. How do I connect the iLo DVD Recorder to my TV that does not have the standard (Red / Yellow / White) AV input connections?
You need to separately purchase an RF modulator (Radio Frequency Modulator) to connect your TV to the iLo DVD Recorder. RF Modulators can be purchased in any Wal-Mart or most electronics stores. Instructions for connecting your DVD Recorder using an RF Modulator are as follows:

ILO DVD recorder >>> (A/V cable- three color coded ends red/yellow/white) >>> RF modulator >>> coaxial cable >>> TV

1. Plug your iLo DVD recorder’s color coded A/V cables (red / white / yellow) into the color coded output on the DVD Recorder. Connect the other end of the A/V cable into the color coded AV input on the RF modulator.
2. Connect the RF modulator coaxial output to your TV coaxial input using a coaxial cable (not included).
3. Select either the channel 3 or 4 output on the back of the RF modulator (depending on your TV).
4. When you want to use your DVD recorder; select either channel 3 or 4 on the TV (same channel as RF Modulator), then turn on the DVD recorder. The RF modulator will automatically pass the video and audio signals through to your TV.
